2018 was a good year…2019 is taking shape!

Its cold and wet and only 2wks to Christmas; time for a quick look back at the highlights of 2018. Over 12,000 miles ridden and the following countries visited; Thailand, Laos, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Norway Sweden, Spain and Wales.

February 18 Thailand & Laos

Another trip with Duncan of TBB Chiang Mai; the group was made up of 3 Americans, 3 Brits and Riz from India. We all got on well and had a great tour riding the best, and some of the worst, roads in Northern Thailand and Laos. The weather was hot and as always this area delivers an adventure never to be forgotten…the noodle soup, the smiling waving kids, the chaos on the roads, the Elephants, the Chang and Singha beer, the Ladyboys, the punctures, the picturesque countryside, the bomb cases in Laos..and the laughs, we had loads 🙂

July 18 Norway…and Sweden!

What a fantastic solo adventure this was; 6000 miles through 7 countries. Norway is a very picturesque place, much of it very remote as you approach the Artic Circle. Beer is very expensive and the speed limits are low; the girls are all blonde and beautiful 🙂 The police are out to catch you; and they caught me speeding up in the Artic Circle on an open road with no cars in either direction. They banned me on the spot and threw me out of Norway and told me to ride home via Sweden..but 5mths later they have never sent me a fine letter! 🙂

The North of Sweden was very remote; Lakes, forests and Reindeer ; I met my new friend, Claus from Denmark..another fugitive from the Norwegian police!

August/September 18… The French & Spanish Pyrenees

Five of us took the overnight ferry to Bilbao and then rode into the Pyrenees, criss crossing between the French and Spanish sides. Fantastic scenery, great roads, cheap beer and wine and dry and sunny (mostly)..another great trip!

October 18..and finally WALES

I love Wales, easy to get to, great roads, spectacular scenery..just need to pick a couple of days when its not raining! I managed to do that in October and had 4 great days, 2 of which were really sunny and warm! Found some great new roads and rode the best old ones. Wales is always a fantastic adventure 🙂

So that’s it now for 2018, the GS is in the garage with the heater on. I don’t mind riding in the cold as long as its not less than 5degs C; biking is supposed to be fun! so I’m hoping for a dry sunny day soon. 2018 was another great year of riding:

I’d like to thank my very understanding wife of 47 years! I’m a lucky guy, being able to visit places I’ve never been before, meeting a wide variety of people on these adventures and making new friends with other bikers along the way..long may it continue 🙂

So its time to get 2019 sorted…watch this space!!!

Happy Christmas and Best Wishes for the New Year to you all 🙂

My theme tune… 🙂
