London-Chiang Mai, Thailand Jan/Feb 2017

20/21/22 Jan 17

Left London with 3c temp, flying Thai Airways; arrived Bangkok 11.5 hrs later next day with 30c! Rushed to catch connecting 1.5 hr flight to Chiang Mai. Arrived at the domestic terminal, waited for luggage..and waited till the flow of bags stopped; no sign of mine which were checked straight through from London!!! Found a guy and showed him my luggage receipt, he beckoned to follow him..we walked 5 mins to the International terminal and there by themselves were my 2 bags going round on the carousel ..relief ?

Had a few beers with one of the guys from the bike shop; didn’t sleep well that night and woke up at 4am with the sound of a mosquito buzzing round my head and the back of my hand itching from a number of bites.. prob just as well I’m taking the Malaria pills !

30c and humid next morning; started with a full English breakfast followed by a very nice Thai red curry at dinner and finished of with a stroll through the massive night bazaar market crammed with people and all manner of goods for sale, food, live music and Ladyboys strutting their stuff..I love Thailand ?

Checked in at Tony’s Big Bikes and met the Australian guy on our trip, immediately the Aussie/Pom baiting started ?, also met the American from Oakland, near SFO.

Wandered round seeing the sights of Chiang Mai; had a nice chat with a German guy I met in a coffee shop. Changed hotel to a small guesthouse near the bike shop in readiness for our 6.30am departure to Myanmar on the bikes in the morning of 23rd!
