We’re off and running!

Sunday June 5th.. Met Bernard at 9am  to ride to Plymouth to get ferry to  Santander, Spain. 216 miles.. 4 hrs ride. Nice day, good view of Stonehenge on A 303 but uneventful, till we met Juan… We had stopped for fuel and up rode Juan on his Harley. Spanish guy who lived in Chester and happened to be on same ferry as us..we got talking and when it was time to go he asked if he could ride with us..yes we said, if you can keep up! We lost him after 2min!

At Brittany Ferries checkin I have never seen so many bikes on a ferry before.. Long queues, but sun was out so ok. Ship left 1hr late.. It’s a French company!

imageWe met up with Juan on board, nice bloke and he bought his round at the bar. Said his job was delivering horses.. We weren’t sure if he was a vet or a truck driver..turns out he delivered foals .. A sort of midwife.. Strange job.

Very smooth crossing and as a bonus spotted a school of Dolfins leaping out of the water along side the ship.

Monday 6th June. We arrived in Santander late, then they made us bikers wait 1 hr with the bikes before letting us off.. Hot and sweaty.

Finally we were off and within 45mins we were on great roads in lovely country,, happy again. 5 hrs of fantastic riding in mid 20s sunshine, twisty, smooth roads up in the mountains..this is what we came for ?

We made it to our hotel in Potes , a pretty town in Picos d’Europa region of Northern Spain. Shower, beer, dinner, wine and in bed by 11pm.. Great day.. More tomorrow….
