Riding in Cambodia, Laos & Thailand

Here is the bike I’m riding for 3000+ kms over here.. It’s a Honda CBX 500cc twin.. a value for money adventure bike..red ones are best 🙂

I have developed a love/hate relationship with it. First the good things… It is reliable, it takes everything we throw at it and comes back for more, on a nice smooth road it handles quiet well.. It towers over the Miriad Motos & scooters here, and  it’s red.

But… The screen is rubbish, no wind protection, and above 100kms per hr I am a windsock and have to hang on for dear life, which produces shoulder burn after a while. The seat gives me arse ache. When you hit some nasty bumps leaned over the suspension tries to tie itself in a knot.. But, it’s going to get me all the way to Chiang Mai, I hope.

Some observations…I thought riding in Thailand was pretty crazy, then I found Cambodia! The rules of the road are that there are no rules!! You aim where you want to go and just do it..no need to look or indicate and don’t worry if you drive against the traffic flow! But somehow it works, with no road rage even though there are millions, just like a swarm of ants.. Especially in the capital Phnom Phen

Your motorbike can carry Anything.. People, animals of all sorts ( pigs, chickens etc) boxes.. In fact all your worldly goods…and you don’t have to clean it 🙂 Amazing how some women can ride pillion side saddle  and stay on.. they are also very good at riding with one hand.. using the other to hold an umbrella to keep the sun off, or of course to hold the mobile to ones ear..

It’s all good and great to be part of 🙂
