Heading for Thailand

  • imageThurs 11th Feb

We woke up to thick mist and it was COLD no breakfast at hotel so we walked down the Main Street in our full biking gear looking for coffee and something other than noodle soup. We found a place that already had its fire going and pot boiling.. we managed to get them to cook us 2 eggs each, the coffee was black treacle.

We set off for the Thai border about 150kms away..the road through the mountains was up and down and twisty with fantastic scenery and small rural villages with waving children again..the loose gravel on corners and a few potholes kept us focused.

Then we met the Elephants .. 6 of them working  elephants lumbering along.. Made our day. I love Laos, so simple  laid back and friendly.

The last few miles to border was a great piece of road but for the diesel dropped by trucks on the corners.. Had a couple of moments from the rear tyre and took it easy from then!  Crossing to Thailand went smoothly and we were on our way into Northern Thailand with 3000 kms behind us already. Final bowl of noodle soup then last 50kms to our hotel.. the road was billiard smooth with lovely bends to blast through and we were there in no time. Staying in Thung Chang for 2 nights to ride more of the best roads, then on to Chiang Rai and finally Chiang Mai on Sun 14th

PS: Made a schoolboy error and deleted some pics from media library by mistake so some holes where pics should be..well it is my first time at this 🙂
