Greeted by the lovely sunrise over the Mekong we set off to ride the 500kms to Thakhek, our next destination. The first 10kms was a dirt road with lots of big holes and ruts and clouds of dust..just the job to wake me up fully! The roads here are not just for vehicles, they are also shared by herds of buffalo, cattle, dogs, chickens, goats and the rest.. The buffalo have. An annoying habit of sauntering across the road and like to wait till we are nearly upon them before making their move.
As we get deeper into Laos you can see it’s a simple way of life here.. the young children are so cute and wave at us with big smiles as we roar by. It’s time for lunch.. noodle soup of course, cooked up in a bid pot over a wood fire which is always on the go.
We arrive at the hotel on the banks of the Mekong. welcomed by loud bangs from fireworks as they celebrate the Chinese New Year. Time to get some Lao money, took out 1,500,000 Kip.. I’m a millionaire.. maybe not, that is only £130 ! Green curry with prawn for dinner washed down with BeerLao again.. Fantastic:) and so to bed.
